"Danmark", seen here in 1931.
“Danmark” was build in 1931 for A/S Dampsk. Selsk. Myren (Holm & Wonsild), Copenhagen.
Sold in 1934 to Det Danske Petroleums A/S (EssoDanmark).
Torpedoed in 1940, salvaged, but afterpart was lost.
Sold in 1948 to Shell as "Shelfoil", as a floating storage at Dublin.
Scrapped in 1953 at Faslane.

The crew in the engineroom; 4 engineers, 7 engineer-assistants, 1 donkeyman and 3 stokers.
Main engines of the "Danmark"; Two 6 Cylinder fourstrokes developing 5.000 HP and the
Aux. engines were 2 cylinder diesels developing 200 HP.

DANMARK” build in 1931 in Copenhagen “B&W” ( A/S Burmeister & Wain, Copenhagen ) as Motor Tanker, # 590.

She was build for the Danish shipping Co.MYREN, Copenhagen as “DANMARK”.
Sold 1934 to DDPA = ESSO “DANMARK”..
Sunk after torpedo attack 12 jan.1940 in Inganess Bay, Orkney Island on voyage Aruba-Nyborg, Denmark
with Benzin & Petroleum, all were saved.
The foreship was submerged and towed to Grangesmouth and used as oil hulk.
Sold 1948 to Shell-Mix & B.P., London “SHELFOIL”, towed to Dublin, Ireland as oil hulk .

Notes on loss:
At 06.50 hours on 12 Jan, 1940, the Denmark was hit by one torpedo from U-23 when she was anchored in a
Bay in the Shetlands. She exploded, broke in two and drifted ashore. On 21 January, the afterpart sank
and the forepart was refloated, taken to Inverkeithing and used as storage hulk.
