SALVAGE FOR TOWING THE "VEENDAM"
The New York Times, May 30, 1891, Saturday

SALVAGE FOR TOWING THE VEENDAM.

A claim for salvage was filed in the United States District Court yesterday by the American Petroleum Com-pany of Rotterdam, owner of the steamer "La Flandre", against the steamer "Veendam". It is set up that May 16, 1,200 miles from port, "La Flandre" came up with the "Veendam", which was flying a flag of distress, and that "La Flandre" towed the Dutch vessel out of danger to the Newfoundland Banks, when the hawser parted. For this service salvage such as the court may allow is claimed.
