UGLY FATHER OCEAN
VERY ROUGH WHEATHER REPORTED BY INCOMING VESSELS.

Capt. Peters of the steamship Charlois, which arrived last evening from Rotterdam, reports having had a very trying experience.
The steamer left Rotterdam on Oct. 20, but was obliged to put back to Queenstown with her machinery dis-abled. She sailed again on Jan. 2, and met with a series of violent gales and hurricanes. Heavy waves wash-ed over the decks, causing considerable damage. On Jan. 11 a heavy sea boarded the ship and washed seaman John Burns against one of the iron ladders, breaking his left Ieg. Upon the following day, in latitude 47° 6' and longitude 39° 50', the Britiah steamship "McCaral", bound from Norfolk for London, was spoken. Her rudder had been damaged and she was unable to steer, but required no assistance. On Jan. 13, in lati-tude 45° and longitude 47° 10', the Charlois passed the German steamship Grasbrock, bound from Antwerp for Halliax, with her machinery disabled. She declined offers of assistance.
