  Exxo Louisville
The "Exxon Louisville", the first of five new towboats being built for Exxon Company, U.S.A.,
sails past Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during trials.

New class of towboat joins Exxon USA fleet.
The Exxon Louisville, the first of five new towboats being built for Exxon Company, U.S.A., was delivered on June 19, 1976. The vessel features twin diesel engines which deliver a total of 3,300 hp to two 102-inch stainless kort-nozzled pro-pellers driven through reverse reduction gears with air clutches. One of two powerful hydraulic steering systems controls two steering rudders; the other handles four flanking rudders. All major machinery is controlled and moni-tored from the pilot house, with backup control and monitoring from the engine room area. Firefighting equipment includes a total flooding CO2 system for all machinery areas, backed up by independent electrical fire pumps and portable fire extinguishers. The hull is 120 feet long, 34 feet wide, with an operating draft of 8 1/2 feet. The Exxon Louisville is delivering heating oil up the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Johnsville, Tennessee.
