 The first "Esso Washington" launched as Brandywine (1).
The T2-SE-A1 tanker Esso Washington speeding for New York from Houston in June 1943. On a US Navy mission in the
Pacific in March 1945 she grounded on Parry Island, near the entrance to the lagoon of Eniwetok Atoll. Salvage
attempts were unsuccessful and so the ship was stripped of removable parts and equipment, and then abandoned.

Built November 1942 by Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock, Chester, PA., as "Brandywine (I)", # 346, for U.M.S.C.
1942 Sold privatly, as "Esso Washington", Esso Shipping Co.
1945 Grounded at Eniwetok, Marshall Islands, March 14, 1945.
Could not be salvaged and was lost.
