ESSO International Tankers 1900-1909
City of Everett - (1901-1922)
"City of Everett" was build in 1894, with a typical whaleback hull.
1901 converted to tanker for Standard Oil Co., New York.
Sold in 1922 to Abram I. Kaplan, New York.
Foundered 11 Oct 1923 in the Gulf of Mexico, voyage Santiago de Cuba - New Orleans, with molasses.

The "City of Everett", a whale-back, built on the peculiar lines shown in the photograph, was one of the first tank steamers
placed in the Port Arthur oil trade. Her destruction by fire in 1903 was one of the most sensational occurrences in the history
of the Beaumont oil industry; the flames enveloped her from stem to stern, and when they died out she was completely gutted.
Her owners, the Standard Oil Company, had her refitted and put back into the trade. This photograph was taken by
Mr. Trost a few days after her return to Port Arthur.

"City of Everett".

"City of Everett". Exploded and burned at Port Arthur, Texas, September 8,1903, rebuilt in Brooklyn in 1904 with an
orthodox bow and stern. Slightly enlarged, hence a greater overall tonnage.
