Mobil Progress, the fourth of Mobil's supertankers, was christened last month at the Sasebo Heavy Industries Co. shipyards in Sasebo,
Japan, and embarked on her malden voyage soon afterwards. With sea trials completed in the East China Sea, the vessel set
sail Oct. 26 for the Persian Gulf where she will load crude for her maiden run to Rotterdam. The vessel is a sister ship to the Mobil Pegasus,
which was completed in November, 1969, the Mobil Pinnacle, which was completed in October, 1970, and the Mobil Pride, completed
last May. She has essentially the same vital statistics as the other vessels: 211,597 deadweight tons, 1,070 feet long, 158 feet across,
63-foot draft, and an average service speed of more than 16 knots. Owner is Mobil Shipping & Transportation Company ( MOSAT ).
The vessel was christened Oct. 6, by Mrs. Curtis M. Klaerner. Mr. Klaerner is a corporate vice president in the International Division.
