I noticed on site that you were missing photographs of the following ship.
Stanvac Progress.
I stood by the building of the ship as an apprentice deck officer and left some months latter having been promoted to 4th officer. At the break up of Stanvac I transferred to Esso Petroleum. Having risen through the ranks to Master I retired in 1997 after 40 years’ service.
This photo is the ship under tow in Singapore Straits.
Having left Keppel Harbour Dry Dock loaded at Tan Junk Oban, part cargo Cebu then to Manila. Coming to anchor there the propeller boss came loose. Damage to the tail shaft such that we were towed back to Singapore for repair. The tug was called the Gripper owned by Singapore Harbour Board at that time. Its history interesting since it saw active service on the Murmansk Convoys during the 2nd World War.
The photo on page 2 I guess was taken departing the Elbe with ship sailing on maiden voyage.
I hope that these are of some use to you. Needless to say I have many photographs of EPCO ships but the nothing of exceptional worth to you.
Yours sincerely
George T Rymer.
