Yardnumber 62. UMSC No. 1919 Off. nr. 245593.
Keel laid 22-02-1944. Launched 12-04-1944. Completed 16-05-1944. Gr. 10448 t., Net. 6285 t., Dw. 16613 t. L.o.a. 159,57 m., Br. 20,78 m., Dr. 8,99 m. Engine: 2 steam turbines, manufactured by General Electric Company, Lynn, Massachussetts. 7240 B.h.p., 5401 kW. Speed 15 knots. 26 Tanks.
History:
COULEE DAM-1944 completed for United States War Shipping Administration, Portland, Oregon, USA.
SHAPUR-1947 for French Government, Dunkirk, France.
SHAPUR-1948 for Association Petroliere, Dunkirk, France.
FERNAND GILABERT-1955 for Association Petroliere, Dunkirk, France.

Reported Fernand Gilabert was involved in collision with Liberian tanker MELKA 13 Sep. 1958, off the coast of Oman in in position 24.19 N/ 58.22 E voyage Port de Bouc - Mena al Ahmadi, in ballast and caught fire. 7 crew members killed. Fire extinguished and declared a constructive total loss.
Reported Fernand Gilabert sold to shipbreakers in India. Arrived, Bombay Jan. 1959 to be broken up. [ By Vishwa Sehyog Dahrukhama ]

Additional Information :
13.09.1958  When outward bound in ballast from Port de Bouc to Mena el Ahmadi, was off the coast of Oman when,  in monsoon conditions of heavy seas , she went in collision, when light, with the full cargo Liberian tanker "Melika"  (20551-1954).
Fire broke out on both ships and seven members of "Fernand-Gilabert" and fifteen of "Melika"  were lost. The engines of "Melika" were not stopped and she steamed over twenty miles unmanned until the British  frigate "HMS Puma" put a party on board. A salvage party from aircraft carrier "HMS Bulwark" got aboard the "Fernand-Gilabert" and after getting fire under control, the ship was taken in tow stern first. It was handed over later to "HMS Loch Killisport", who arrived at Karachi on 20.09.1958.
 "Melika" was towed the same day at Muscat by "HMS Bulwark".
07,01.1959 Arrived Bombay and laid up.
08.1959 : sold for breaking up to Vishwa Sehyog Dahrukhama.
