My wipers bunk.
Automated Sewage Treatment Plant. That a few weeks later at lay-up I was the only wiper of we three
who had the stomach to climb down in and physically remove hardened solid matter. The other two out
in the open air were hard pressed to handle the five gallon buckets of stuff I handed up to them through
the top man access opening.
My 12-4 watch engineer Bing Miller, I was the watch wiper. We were up-bound light and had just passed
Detroit, where the new Lake Carriers Bulletin came aboard via the Wesscott Detroit Marine Post Office
boat, zip code 48222, and Bing is working on the cross word puzzle while standing throttle watch.
