Syosset
LOA  501' 7"; Beam 68';  Depth 37'; 16,543 DWT, 133,813 bbls.
Bethlehem turbines, cross-compound, Falk reduction gears, developing 7000 SHP at 85 RPM 15.0 knots
Launched 3 February 1945, and commissioned 12 March at Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Sparrows
Point, Maryland.
A government T3 tanker, "Syosset" came to Socony-Vacuum under the terms of a third exchange agreement
with the Maritime Commission, in exchange for "Lebec" and "American Arrow".
She entered service in the last year of WWII and served in a few transatlantic convoys prior to VE Day. Then
she switched to the Pacific. She arrived home in November 1945, and after 1 1 /2 years on the US east coast
was allocated on a bareboat charter to General Petroleum Company for use on the Pacific coast.
