Laid down, 1 November 1943 as SS Mason L. Weems, a Maritime Commission type (Z-ET1-S-C3) hull,
under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1928) at Delta Shipbuilding Co., New Orleans, LA.
Renamed Moose 27 October 1943
Launched, 17 December 1943
Acquired by the Navy, 27 January 1944
Commissioned USS Moose (IX-124), 28 January 1944. LT G. E. Spencer, USNR, in command
During World War II USS Moose was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and participated in the following campaign;

Struck from the Naval Register, 8 May 1946 USS Moose earned one battle star for World War II service Merchant Service
Sold by the Maritime Commission in 1948 to Tramp Shipping & Oil Transportation Corp., renamed SS Yankee Pioneer
Converted to a dry cargo ship at Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1948
Sold to Weyerhaeuser Steamship Company, in 1951, renamed SS Y. L. McCormick
Renamed SS Anji in 1961, US flagged
Grounded and severely damaged in a typhoon near Hong Kong in September 1961
Final Disposition, scrapped at Hong Kong in March 1965
