Laid down, 31 January 1945, as a Maritime Commission type (T1-MT-BT1) tanker hull, under Maritime
Commission contract, (MC hull 2628), at St Johns River Shipbuilding, Jacksonville, FL.
Launched, 14 May 1945
Commissioned USS Peconic (AOG-68), 29 September 1945, with a Coast Guard crew
Decommissioned, 4 January 1946, at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA.
Struck from the Naval Register, 21 January 1947 Custody transferred to the Maritime Commission, for disposal
Leased for commercial service to Maritime Transport Lines Inc. in 1946, renamed M/V Voshell
Turned over to the Naval Transportation Service (NTS), 4 April 1948, named reverted to Peconic (AOG-68)
operated under contract Custody assigned to the Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS), 1 October 1949,
redesignated USNS Peconic (T-AOG-68)
Reinstated in the Naval Register, 28 April 1950
Placed out of service, struck from the Naval Register and transferred to the Maritime Administration (MARAD),
12 November 1957, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Beaumont, TX.
Final Disposition, scrapped in 1983

USNS Peconic (T-AOG-68) at New York, 3 April 1950. Note the unusual shape of the front of the after superstructure.
While the ship was in civilian hands between 1946 and 1948 her streamlined dummy smokestack was converted
to a deckhouse with a short stack at the after end.
