Decommissioned, 4 May 1972, at Long Beach, CA.
Turned over to the Military Sealift Command (MSC) and placed in service as USNS Taluga (T-AO-62)

Transferred to the Maritime Administration (MARAD) for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Suisun
