While on the Lee A. Tregurtha, we had the further good fortune to find ourselves following the American Victory up
the St. Mary's River from Lake Huron to Lake Superior. The American Victory was the former Middletown, was launched as
the Marquette, and served in WWII as Neshanic (AO-71). These two old sister ships, launched just 4 months apart at
Sparrow's Point, Maryland in 1942, both wearing their battle ribbons from WWII, passed through the locks at Sault Ste.
Marie side by side on July 22, 2007. We followed the American Victory out to Lake Superior, where the two vessels took
different routes.

I'm attaching some photos from this event: those of the Lee A. Tregurtha were taken by friends on shore as we passed;
those of the American Victory were taken by me from on board the the Lee A. Tregurtha at the Sault Ste. Marie Locks and in
Whitefish Bay.
