Laid down in 1921 as Gargoyle, at Moore Shipbuilding Co, Oakland, CA.
Renamed Arethusa, 3 November 1943
Acquired by the US Navy, 23 March 1944
Commissioned USS Arethusa (IX-135), 23 March 1944
Decommissioned,at Subic Bay, P.I. in May 1946 (DANFS has the ship decommissioned at San Francisco, 16 May 1946)
Placed in service and delivered to the Maritime Commission at San Francisco, CA.
Laid up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet
Struck from the Naval Register, 5 June 1946
Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 8 December 1947, to Kaiser Co., Inc.
Arethusa received two battle stars for World War II service
