Mobil Endurance (1) - (1962-1976)
"Mobil Endurance",
LOA 742', Beam 104' 5", Draught 40' 5 1/2, 54,346 SDWT
Built 1962 by Eriksbergs, Mekaniska Verkstad, Gothenburg, Sweden, powered by a Stal-Laval turbine developing 18,000HP.
Delivered to Mobil Tankers Limited in April 1962, this was the third vessel to be built for Mobil by Eriksbergs.
In January 1972, on passage from France to Es Sider, Libya, the vessel rescued two crew and a dog from the yacht VELA.
The yacht had been "end-for-ended" by the Mistral four days earlier and the rescuees were suffering from exhaustion.
They were landed at Palma, Majorca
As an experiment the original steel cargo piping was removed and glass reinforced plastic piping was installed. The new
piping proved to be very successful and was still in good condition when the vessel was scrapped.
MOBIL ENDURANCE made her final voyage from Zuetina to Himeji, Japan, in July 1976 and was sold for disposal at
Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in August 1976.
