Waterman N
One of the largest bulk carriers of the world, definitely should be mentioned as Waterman N ship. Ships from the category of Waterman N are large bulk carriers, because of their size and cargo capacity. They can carry hundreds thousands of cargo around the oceans from one port to another, but with low productivity, because of low maneuver-ability and restrictions in bulk harbors. Waterman N has length of 328.00 meters and moulded beam of 54.00 meters. The draft of the vessel, when fully loaded is 20.00 meters and the deadweight tonnage is 260,000 metric tons. Such large bulk carriers are not built recently due to high consumption of money, time and low productivity. The Waterman N was built in 1985 in the shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea. This was giant project for the ship-builder, which definitely is one of the best known builders and producers of ships in the world. Whatever, buil-ding of 260,000 metric tons is a challenge and this challenge was completed by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The ship has 9 cargo holds, each with separate hatch and automated system for opening and closing of all hatches separa-tely. The cargo holds are designed to be easier for loading (with large hatch openings) and easier for discharge (with scarf angles of the bottom). But in front of the shipbuilder there were also many important problems to be sol-ved, just like engine, hull shape, paint and so on. They solved all of them with most modern and innovative way for the years of building. The main engine of Waterman N is Man B&W 5L70MCE with power of 23,610 hp, which are giving to the ship ability to realize maximum speed of 17.3 knots, while the cruising speed is 16.4 knots. The main engine is reliable, considered with highest standards of ship-building and ship-sailing. The shape of the hull is aero-dynamical with bulb to decrease the resistance of the waves. Also the paint is decreasing the overgrowth of the hull with seaweed. This is very important for ship-builder and mostly of all for the ship-operator, who actually is Neu See-schiffahrt Gmbh. Of course the ships like Waterman N are among the largest in the world ship-sailing, which is great ad for the company operating with the vessel and also with the industry for the development, which it reached.
